Basic Woodworking Skills evening class

Length: 6 weeks / Time: 18.00-21.00 / Fee: £185 / Level: Beginners

Learn to use woodworking hand tools safely. This short course will give you the confidence to use tools the correct way and to produce hand made items. A certificate of achievement will be handed to you when you complete the course.

Marking out tools – Using a ruler, marking gauge, mortice gauge, try square, sliding bevel and combination square.

Hand saws – Producing straight, mitre, compound and curved cuts.

Wood chisels – Producing mortice, recess, stopped and open chamfers.

Hand planes – setting up, plane square and producing chamfers.

Sharpening blades – grinding and honing (sharpening) chisels and planes blades.

Producing a corner halving joint, a cross halving joint and a tee halving joint.

Manufacturing a frame by hand.

Finishing with wood oil.

Using your new learned skills, you will produce a picture frame holding four pictures for you to take home.
