Exmouth firefighters put out early hours car blaze

Two fire engines were called out to a car fire in the early hours of Sunday morning (29 August) in Exmouth.

The vehicle was on fire when they arrived. The firefighters extinguished it using two hoses, and the car was left heavily damaged by the flames, smoke, and water.

The cause was reportedly accidental.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said in a report: "Two fire engines from Exmouth attended an incident in the early hours of this morning following reports of a car fire.

"Upon arrival crews confirmed one private vehicle was well alight. Crews used 1 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. They then used the thermal image camera to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.

"Control were informed that the car was 50% damaged by fire and 100% damaged by smoke and water. As a result of smoke from the vehicle fire, a nearby properties alarms sounded. Crews liaised with the owner of the property before returning home station.

"The cause of the vehicle fire was recorded as accidental."
