A new 'state-of-the-art' accommodation block has opened at the Royal Marines' Commando Training Centre in Lympstone for recruits injured during training.

The new 181-bed building features eight-and 10-bed rooms alongside three single rooms and laundry facilities. It has a large communal recreation area with TVs, a kitchenette, and IT facilities, which can also be used as a classroom.

The block, known as the Comacchio Building, was opened by Col. Simon Chapman, Commandant of the Commando Training Centre, on Thursday 4 November.

Simon Jones, Defence Infrastructure Organisation Project Manager, said: "This purpose-built facility will provide modern and essential accommodation to personnel and to allow them to continue training as they recover from injury and undergo rehabilitation prior to rejoining their normal unit.

"This was a challenging project especially continuing safely throughout the current pandemic, but it demonstrated our expertise in delivering unique construction projects on time for the Armed Forces."
