Exmouth RNLI attend emergency call from drifting boat

Exmouth RNLI went to the aid of two people on a day boat that was drifting out of control on the River Exe this afternoon (Monday, September 27).

HM coastguard tasked the inshore Lifeboat D-805 George Bearman II to the incident at 2.30pm after the boat's occupants made an emergency call.

They said they were drifting southerly on the River Exe off Starcross and were unable to make headway.

The inshore lifeboat volunteer crew, Guy Munnings, Roy Stott and James Edge, went to the boat's last known location and quickly found it in shallow water. They towed the boat to shore at Starcross, arriving soon after 3pm. Both of the people on the boat were safe and well.

Other RNLI volunteers involved in the rescue were Deputy Launch Authority, Hedley Saunders, and shore/launch crew Andrew Stott, Ed Thomas and James Searle.

Once the broken-down vessel was secured and the occupants were safety ashore, the volunteer lifesavers were stood down by the coastguard.

They returned to Exmouth RNLI lifeboat station where the lifeboat was back ready for service a short time later.
