NCI Exmouth celebrated National Coastwatch Day last Saturday (28 August) to raise awareness of its role in search and rescue operations along the coast.

A charity run by volunteers, NCI Exmouth works with HM Coastguard and the RNLI by keeping watch over the Exe estuary and Exmouth beach every day of the year.

The open day took place at Coastwatch House on Queen's Drive. A spokesperson for NCI Exmouth said: "An amazing turnout for our NCI Exmouth National Coastwatch Day.

"[We had] a visit from the RNLI Beach lifeguards and Local Coastguard CRT, as well as the valued support from Exmouth Mayor Steve Gazzard, and lots of personal interventions with locals and visitors to the South West to reveal beach safety messages, explain local hazards and promote the use of our VHF Channel 65."

"We also explained how NCI Exmouth integrates with HM Coastguard and the search-and-rescue family.

"Thank you Exmouth for your generosity."
