Devon County Council is seeking to remind the public of its campaign 'Share this Space' to encourage road users and pedestrians to be considerate this summer.

As lockdown restrictions ease, a higher volume of people are expected to be out and about in the coming months.

The advice is as follows:

- Cyclists should pass pedestrians slowly and carefully, letting people know that they're there

- Dog walkers on shared walking and cycle paths should keep their dog on a short lead

- Pedestrians are advised to check for traffic before crossing the road

- Cars and motorcycles are asked to give vulnerable road users such as cyclists and horses extra room, and be aware of pedestrians stepping into the road.

Colin Savage of Devon County Council's Road Safety Team said: "We encourage all users of roads and paths to be nice, patient and considerate to others as part of Share this Space programme.

"We believe that most people, whether they are driving, cycling or walking, are considerate road users, however it is the occasional negative incident that people remember.

"Even the best driver or cyclist can make a genuine mistake, so it's about being tolerant and appreciating that we're all just trying to get from A to B as easily and safely as possible."
