Withycombe RFC v Saltash: match preview

By Philippa Davies

24th Sep 2021 | Local Sport

The weekend approaches once again, meaning that it's time to prepare to welcome Saltash to Raleigh Park for round 4 of the Tribute Cornwall/Devon league.

The Withies go into tomorrow's game sitting 10th in the league after last weekend's difficult game away at Cullompton. In a game where nothing seemed to 'stick', possession and solid attacking opportunities were hard to come by; plus losing a couple of key players to injury once again would not have helped efforts at Stafford Park.

That was last week though, and the side go into this game with the full story on how difficult this level of rugby can be. With two more training sessions under their belt and more time to gel as a team, the boys will be looking to put last week behind them and put on a display to impress the home crowd at Raleigh Park.

Our visitors, Saltash, are currently without a win and sit two places below us in 12th after a similar heavy defeat last week, losing 51-7 to Plymstock Albion Oaks.

Despite last week's result and current league position, the Withy boys will still be expecting a strong performance from the visitors as traditional meetings between the two sides are often tough encounters.

The last time the two sides met was in February 2018 when, after a waterlogged pitch postponed the first attempt, Saltash ran out 41-27 winners in a league/cup double on the 3G artificial pitch at Keyham. It's back on grass tomorrow though and the Withies will be looking forward to a run!

Tomorrow's game at Raleigh Park kicks off at 2:30pm with the bar opening up from 1pm.

As ever, we'd love to see you and the boys will appreciate the support, so once again, let's pack the park and make it a great atmosphere!

For those who are unable to make the game, live updates will be available online as ever on the club website.
