A 15-year-old boy from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place. He was taken into custody and later released under investigation pending further enquiries.
The disorder on Exmouth Beach comes 24 hours after the police were called to the beach at Orcombe Point after reports of fighting and anti-social behaviour.
Also the day before a 'racially aggravated assault' took place at Exmouth Train Station resulting in one man being airlifted to hospital after allegedly being attacked with a glass bottle.
The fighting last night (June 25) was reported to the police at around 8pm.
A police spokesperson said: "While in attendance at Exmouth sea front yesterday evening, police became aware of large disorder shortly before 8pm. Officers attended the incident at Orcombe point where a group of up to 50 youths were fighting.
"Whilst in attendance, officers were verbally abused and spat at."
