Appeal for common sense after BBQ burns out bin and damages tarmac

Council officers had to clean up and remove a burned out bin from the seafront at Budleigh Salterton yesterday after it was destroyed by a disposable BBQ.
Officers from East Devon District Council's Street Scene Operations team found that the burned out bin at Budleigh Lime Kiln had also damaged other nearby bins and the tarmac it was stood on.
A spokesperson for East Devon District Council said: "A BBQ has burnt out the bin, as well as the recycling bins and the tarmac.
"Please use the BBQ bins provided, as this could have easily been avoided if the metal bin was used."
If you are using a disposable BBQ be sure to leave it to cool down completely before you dispose of it safely in a bin. These types of grill are not currently recyclable so do not throw them into a recycling bin.
