Auditions are now open for an upcoming play at the Blackmore Theatre.

The play, called 'Ladies Day', was written by Amanda Whittington.

It follows a group of four female fish-packers who spend a day at the races at the Royal Ascot in York.

Director Wendy Groves said: "During the course of the day they come into contact with five men; a ticket tout, a TV pundit, an Irish jockey, a gambler, and a bookie.

"The script indicates all six males being played by one actor. This presents an excellent opportunity for one person, but the director is open to these characters being split between more actors.

"The ladies range between mid-twenties to mid-fifties, however, age is immaterial as characterisation is the important role ingredient, and a key acting task is to exhibit the rapport between the ladies."

The auditions will be held over a fortnight, on the weeks commencing 3 and 10 May, in an open-air environment.

The play will be performed this summer from 19-25 July.

If you would like to take part, email your availability during the audition period to [email protected].
