A new recycling bin made to look like a sea monster will be unveiled at Sideshore on Exmouth seafront at 10am on Saturday (22 July).

Assembled from scrap material, it has a large barrel in its 'belly' to collect empty plastic bottles for recycling.

The aim "is to encourage a lot more recycling along the seafront, especially of plastic bottles", Exmouth Town Council said, which has partnered with Sideshore for the project.

The bin has been constructed by art and community company Little Lost Robot.

Its design was reportedly inspired by Exmouth schools Brixington Primary Academy, Withycombe Raleigh Primary School, Exeter Road Community Primary School and the Deaf Academy.

An Exmouth Town Council spokesperson said: "The Mayor of Exmouth will reveal the creature's real name, what it's made from and (most importantly) what it eats! The Exmouth Youth Theatre will be there to sing some sea songs - as well as Lotte from Happy Bubbles.

"Several workshops took place at the schools in May, not only to inform the build, but also to talk about plastic recycling, reusing and repurposing."

The unveiling is free to attend and booking is not required.
