Beware of sunken vessels on the estuary, Exeter Port Authority says

By Will Goddard 29th Jul 2021

Exeter Port Authority are warning users of the Exe Estuary of dangerous sunken vessels on moorings.

The boats are often abandoned and left unattended for years on end, with owners removing any identification before disappearing.

Some of the vessels are still on their moorings, while others have been left on the banks of the estuary.

A spokesperson said: "Please proceed with care through the moorings on the estuary, especially in the Starcross area.

"We are pleased to say that we removed a vessel on Monday that had sunk on a mooring below Powderham Castle."

If you spot a potentially dangerous vessel, you can contact the Exeter Port Authority on 01395 223 265 or email [email protected].
