Bitten, spat at and knocked unconscious: police officer assaulted while attending incident in Exmouth

A police officer has been bitten, kicked, and knocked unconscious in Exmouth.

Two other officers had blood spat into to their faces in the incident, which happened in Drakes Avenue on Tuesday, March 2.

Police were called to a property there at about 3.30pm after a report that a man had spat at another man.

When they arrived, a 33-year old officer was bitten on the hand, kicked and headbutted by a man. The headbutt caused a cut to his nose and knocked him to the ground, where he hit his head and lost consciousness.

Two other officers were spat at, leaving blood and spittle on their faces and hands.

A 37-year-old man of no fixed abode was arrested on two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm.

He's been released on police bail until March 25 as further investigations are carried out.
