Fun, interactive event for the learning disabled

This year's Devon Blue Light event takes place on Wednesday 15th August at Westpoint Arena, Clyst St Mary, Exeter from 10am to 2.30pm.  (An easy-read version of our programme is available at this link)

The free event is designed to break down barriers between people with learning disabilities and the emergency services, helping them to be more confident and independent in the community. The theme for the day is to encourage people to be active, healthy and safe.

Around 50 organisations will be on hand to give information and advice about healthcare and support services for people with learning disabilities.  There will also be a British sign language (BSL) interpreter at the event.

Highlights of the day will include: music and dance, food and drink, inclusive sports, police drone, demonstrations, workshops, information on healthy living, First aid initiatives and the Fire service simulator!

It is hoped that there will also be a police dog, car and possibly the helicopter!

Chief Superintendent Jim Colwell of Devon & Cornwall Police said, "Blue Light Day is a great, interactive event which is a really good opportunity for members of the public, including those with learning disabilities, to meet their local emergency services and partner agencies.

"As well as an opportunity to talk about safety with people from all areas of our local communities, everyone has a lot of fun.  I know that this year's event will be as successful as previous years and will be a great day for all involved."

Bobby Singh of Roc Active and event organiser said, "The popularity of this event is increasing year on year and we're so proud to be a part of it.  This is a great opportunity for people to learn about their local emergency services, meet service personnel and have a great day out as well."
