St Peter's Church of England Primary School in Budleigh Salterton continues to be a 'good' school, according to Ofsted's most recent inspection.

Ofsted has four ratings: inadequate, requires improvement, good, and outstanding.

The school has kept the same rating of good since its first graded inspection in 2005, then again in 2008 and 2013.

The education watchdog said that St Peter's has "an ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum in place for most subjects", there is a whole-school culture of prioritising reading, and staff "promote pupils' personal development extensively".

Ofsted also noted that the school has "effective" arrangements for safeguarding. It said that staff know pupils and their families well, and as a result are quick to notice and respond to any concerns or worries.

To improve, it recommended that St Peter's leaders need to ensure that the curriculum in all subjects is "fully embedded and sequenced so that pupils know and remember more over time".

It also said that the leadership of SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) has recently changed, and while leaders have "a clear understanding of what needs to be done to ensure that all pupils with SEND can successfully learn the same ambitious curriculum as their peers, for some pupils this is not yet fully in place".

The ungraded inspection, the second since 2013, was carried out on 21 and 22 September. Ofsted inspects good schools roughly every four years to confirm that the school remains good in its estimation.
