Twelve months ago the Beast from the East arrived across the country. In the background during this time, and at the request of residents within the Colonies, plans were being made to improve the environment in which they live.

With the assistance of Devon County Councillors, Devon County Council's Highways department, East Devon District Council's Streetscene team, South West Water and Exmouth Town Council's Town Maintenance Team, work commenced within the past few weeks.

The Colony was closed to enable cleaning of the roads, paths, gutters, drains and road surface. Now the majority of the work has been completed, it has transformed the area. Residents have voiced their appreciation to all concerned.

Work has started on the much needed Flood Prevention Scheme along our coastline for the protection of the town, residents and businesses.

It has taken many hours of debate, management and co-ordination of all agencies to get to this point and begin the works.

Our wonderful Exmouth in Bloom volunteers have, throughout the autumn and winter months, maintained their standards and produced a number of floral displays which have brightened up the area. Thank you.

I must also extend my congratulations to Stuart Line Cruises who were awarded Gold last December for Small Attraction of the Year and have now been awarded Bronze for South West England Tourism Excellence. Well done to Stuart Line Cruises for their service and community spirit throughout the year.

Finally, The National Deaf Academy has cut its first turf which signals a positive start to the new build and much awaited beginning of a great partnership between the town and academy students in the near future.
