Exmouth Community College has cancelled all sports clubs and fixtures due to concerns for student safety.

A spokesperson for the college took to social media this morning to inform parents and students of the changes.

"Due to the ongoing risks of Coronavirus, college sports clubs and fixtures are cancelled until further notice." said the spokesperson.

"Please understand that closing the college is not a decision we can make. It is up to the Government. We are doing everything we can to safeguard students and staff."

A number of parents responded to the college's post asking why the college will remain open if sports clubs are a Coronavirus risk.

A spokesperson for the college responded: "We are unable to close the school. But we are able to minimise the risk as much as we possibly can. Clubs and activities are in our control. School closure is not."
