Plans to demolish Exmouth's existing police station to make way for a new one have been submitted to East Devon District Council for approval.

The application is only for a phased demolition of the existing magistrates court, custody block and police station.

Another application will reportedly be submitted for the new, purpose-built police station at a later date.

The new two-storey station, for which a funding pot of £5m was approved in June, would feature a face-to-face enquiry desk, and be built on part of the same North Street site with the rest sold for redevelopment.

It would be the operational base for about 60 officers and staff including response officers, neighbourhood officers, PCSOs, and special constables.
