A dirty nappy, 50 used wet wipes, melted glass and more than 350 nails have been found by a beach comber in a small area of Exmouth beach this week.

The beach comber, who has asked to remain anonymous, was cleaning the beach between Exmouth Lifeboat Station and Ocean on Wednesday, June 3.

While walking the route they found more than 50 used wet wipes and a used nappy.

Once they reached the area opposite Ocean they were confronted with the remains of a bonfire. In and around the ashes they found melted glass bottles and more than 350 nails.

The beach comber told Nub News: "The beach area is more disgusting now than I have ever seen it. People are just not being at all thoughtful. At the moment it's actually quite embarrassing.

"I have scraped through the debris and collected over 350 nails but I suspect there are many more buried waiting for an unsuspecting foot.

"How can we possibly win against such stupidity and thoughtlessness?"

The beach comber contacted East Devon District Council which dispatched environmental health officers to the area yesterday to clean up the mess left on the beach.

Nub News has contacted East Devon District Council for more information.
