Exmouth's MP is urging residents not to lose patience with the coronavirus lock down, echoing the latest statement from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

East Devon MP, Simon Jupp, has called on his constituents to stick to the coronavirus lock down restrictions as, 'we can't risk a second peak' of coronavirus deaths.

The MP, elected last year, made the statement on social media today after a statement from Boris Johnson. Today is the Prime Minister's first day back at work after he himself contracted COVID- 19.

Mr Jupp said: "I've spoken to many people and businesses across East Devon and I know it's really tough. However, we can't risk a second peak. The PM is right and it's great to see him back where he belongs."

In his first address to the country since the recovering from the virus Mr Johnson said he believed the country had, 'now begun to turn the tide on the disease'.

The PM also said that he did not want to 'throw away' the hard work, 'effort and sacrifice' of the British public by lifting the lock down restrictions too early.

As of Sunday the total number of UK coronavirus deaths in hospitals stood at 20,732. A further 413 deaths were announced yesterday.

Mr Johnson also announced that the country will be taking part in a minute's silence on Tuesday at 11am to honour all the key workers who have died after contracting the virus.
