A man set out from Exmouth with the aim of walking the entire coastline of Great Britain to raise money for the RNLI on Friday (20 January).

Tim Jones, 33, who hopes to raise half a million pounds, began his journey just after 10am from Exmouth's RNLI Lifeboat Station with his dog Monty.

He will walk clockwise around the coast of Great Britain and also intends to go to the Shetland Islands, the Hebrides and the Isle of Man (and perhaps others).

Mr Jones will also visit as many lifeboat stations as possible along the 8,000-mile route, which he expects will take him four to six years to complete.

Tim told Nub News: "I'm looking forward to it. I've always wanted to walk the coast.

"I've done most of the South West Coast Path. I've walked a lot of the east coast, a lot of walking inland as well and camping.

"It's been a plan for a few years. I was actually walking Monty up here a few weeks ago, and looked at the RNLI station and thought 'aha!', and that was it.

"I thought they'd be a damn good charity. Other than that, I have no ties to the RNLI.

"I've been down here [in Exmouth] near enough four months. Before that I was homeless living on a campsite for about two months."

Tim has set up two fundraising pages: one for the RNLI and another for his own expenses.

You can follow his journey on Facebook here.
