Katie Gray, the executive headteacher of Littleham CofE Primary School, has responded after findings from the Ofsted report were published yesterday (July 16).

The report, which referred to a full inspection conducted on June 18 -19, rated the school as 'requires improvement' in all of the five criteria. This included 'quality of teaching' and 'behaviour and welfare', among other key categories.

Mrs Gray said: "We are determined to return Littleham to the status it deserves as quickly as possible and we are all working hard to achieve that so that we can provide the best education possible for all the children and their families."

Katie Gray took charge of Littleham Primary School in April, as executive headteacher of the Jubilee Foundation.

The Jubilee Foundation includes Branscombe, Broadhembury and Farway Church of England primary schools.

All three schools are rated as 'good' by Ofsted, with Branscombe and Broadhembury rated 'outstanding' by the Church of England and Farway 'good'.

The report for Littleham states that the recently-appointed executive headteacher Katie Gray has 'quickly established a secure understanding of the strengths and areas of the school that require further improvement' and plans are underway to improve the quality of teaching.

However, it went on to say that: "Governors have not been effective in securing good outcomes for pupils. Minutes of meetings held by governors indicate that too much focus has been placed upon future plans for the federation."

Inspectors identified a long list of required improvements embracing the quality of leadership and management, outcomes for all groups of pupils, personal development, behaviour and well-being of pupils, quality of teaching, learning and assessment and early years.
