Exmouth councillor Richard Scott is aiming to cycle 250 miles as part of Hospiscare's Tour de Devon.
The Tour de Devon is a brand new cycle challenge in aid of Hospiscare, the local hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon.
Participants choose between 50, 100 or 250 miles and plan their own route at their own pace, around their favourite parts of Devon.
Councillor Scott said: "I'll be testing my pedal power and cycling the lanes, tracks and byways (and hills don't forget those) of beautiful Devon, all in aid Hospiscare.
"Its going to be a challenge, but nothing compared to the challenge of a terminal diagnosis that so many face each year.
"That's why I'm raising funds for local charity, Hospiscare, which provides support for terminally ill patients and their families across Exeter, Mid and East Devon."
He added: "'Hospicare have provided many of us with an exciting opportunity to raise money for a very good cause, combining it with exercise and the motivation to improve our general health and wellbeing.
"In the Exmouth Rural division we have so many amazing routes for cycling and walking and the ability to raise some money for charity at the same time was too good an opportunity to miss.
"Hopefully by the end of the 21 days we will have completed the work on the Rydon Lane ford connecting Exton and Woodbury with another excellent trail to use."
Hospiscare provides free and specialised nursing to the terminally ill in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. It looks after more than 700 patients at any one time, supporting patients in their own homes and in its hospice. It relies on the generosity of the community to provide this vital service.
