East Devon District Council has issued an apology for ongoing delays to recycling and waste collections.

Staff shortages are reportedly affecting councils across the nation, and the problem is expected to continue.

What should I do with my bins?

The council is advising residents to leave their bins out if no collection has been made.

If it hasn't been collected after four days, you should take it back in and put it out in carrier bags on the next scheduled collection date.

Delay updates are available on the council's website, or via its app.

The collection service for bulky items has been suspended.

How long will this go on for?

In short, until new staff can be found.

There are currently job opportunities for LGV Class 2 drivers, van drivers and loaders - apply by calling James Gatter on 01395 234500.

Councillor Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council portfolio holder for coast, country and environment said: "On behalf of East Devon District Council, I would like to thank all our residents for their understanding, whilst we continue to provide a recycling and waste collection service during these very challenging times.

"I would also like to thank our partners Suez and their whole team who have over the last 18 months kept our service going.

"Please, please continue to recycle and please help our team sort and load by organising the recycling items within the containers."

"Thank you for your continued patience."
