Exmouth Festival has been cancelled for the second year in a row because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival usually takes place over the Whitsun May Bank Holiday, but last year's event was called off when the first lockdown measures were imposed.

The town council has now confirmed that this year's festival will not go ahead.

A spokesperson said: "It is with heavy hearts that Exmouth Town Council must announce that our 2021 Festival, which was due to take place from 28-31st May, has been cancelled.

"The decision has not been taken lightly but has been made in accordance with the Government's current guidelines and recently announced roadmap.

"We realise that a lot of people will be disappointed but the health and well-being of our community, artists, musicians, volunteers and Festival supporters is always our priority.

"We are all really disappointed that we are again unable to put on a festival this year. It will be a loss to the town and yet another blow for all the artists, musicians and community groups who normally take part.

"Exmouth Town Council will endeavor to provide some fun and entertainment later in the summer when we are legally allowed and it is safe to do so.

"Plans for Exmouth Festival 2022 will begin shortly to make sure it is the party that the people of Exmouth deserve."

Councillor Joy Whipps, chair of the festival committee, said: "We are all disappointed but unfortunately it was inevitable; we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the festival when it is safe to do so."
