Exmouth firefighters put out a car on fire in the Knowle Hill area of Budleigh Salterton on Friday (30 June).

One fire engine was mobilised after motorists reported the blaze just before 10.45am.

Crews put the blaze out by around 11am and no-one was injured.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A fire appliance from Exmouth was mobilised to Knowle Hill, Budleigh Salterton, following calls from passing motorists reporting a car on fire on the side of the road.

"On arrival of the crew they confirmed the vehicle was well alight and set to work extinguishing it using breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet.

"Once extinguished the vehicle and area were made safe, with duty of care left with the driver awaiting recovery.

"There were no casualties."
