Firefighters from Exmouth helped cut a person out of their vehicle after a crash near Newton Poppleford on Sunday (12 June).

The crash involved three vehicles, and took place on the A3052 at Four Elms Hill. Fire crews from Exmouth, Sidmouth, and Middlemoor were called to the scene at around 12.10pm.

One person was trapped after the crash - but was cut out of the vehicle and taken to hospital in an ambulance.

According to police, three people overall were taken to hospital: a male and a female (the female has since been discharged), and a local woman in her 70s who sustained multiple serious injuries and is still in hospital.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Once on scene crews confirmed one person physically trapped. Crews extricated one person from vehicle using hydraulic and e-draulic cutting equipment. One person that was extricated was then transferred to hospital via land ambulance."

The road was closed due to the incident, and re-opened at around 10.30pm.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact 101 or [email protected] quoting log 414 Sunday 12 June.
