Exmouth firefighters were involved in efforts to extinguish a barn fire on Sunday (11 June).

Crews from Cullompton, Middlemoor, Wellington and Bridgwater were called out just before 5am to the scene in the Willand area.

The barn reportedly had 1,000 small bales and 300 large bales of hay, 50 large bales of straw, wood chippings and animal pellet feed inside.

Firefighters worked with the farmer to move live cattle from the rear. Using water drawn from a nearby pond, crews fought the blaze and then monitored it overnight.

The fire is believed to have been accidental.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Fire Control received multiple calls for a barn on fire in the Willand area.

"This was a barn containing 1000 small bales of hay, 300 large bales of hay and 50 large bales of straw, wood chippings and animal pellet feed. Water was drawn from an open water supply.

"Crews believe the fire was started accidentally and have monitored the barn throughout the night."
