At around 7am this morning (Friday 29 October), fire control received a call from a cyclist surrounded by as much as three feet of floodwater near Higher Sandygate.

One fire engine from Newton Abbot, one from Torquay and a water rescue boat from Exmouth attended the incident together with two police officers.

Firefighters made contact with the cyclist and told him to stay where he was for safety, then waded towards him following a path through waist-deep water using dry suits and wading sticks.

The water rescue boat was deployed, and the cyclist rescued uninjured.
