Exmouth firefighters helped as many as nine other fire stations extinguish a fire in a shop and rescue people from the flats above in the St. David's area of Exeter yesterday (Tuesday 3 August).

The fire started in a fryer in the shop below in the early evening, and later spread to the flats above the shop.

The fire service rescued three people from the flats, and by 11.20pm just two fire engines remained at the site.

The cause was recorded as being accidental.
