Exmouth: GWR now operating 'core service on all key routes'

By Will Goddard 29th Jul 2021

After the disruption caused by cracks found on some of its high-speed trains, Great Western Railway is now offering 'a core service on all key routes'.

What happened?

GWR recalled a number of its Hitachi 800 trains earlier this month for precautionary inspections after cracks were reportedly found on more than one of the trains.

This meant that many long-distance journeys, such as the lines running between London, Cardiff, Bristol, and Penzance, were cancelled.

Local and rural services were still able to operate however, with the Avocet Line (Exmouth - Exeter) unaffected.

What's the situation now?

As of today (Monday 13 May), GWR has said that it expects "to be able to run a core service on all key routes with an amended timetable".

You can check to see if your journey will be affected on the GWR website.

Other train companies that previously accepted GWR tickets will now no longer accept them.
