An Exmouth musical group have taken to social media to perform the festive tunes they normally entertain people with at Christmas.

Exmouth Handbells are videoing themselves playing a Christmas song or carol every day, and posting the videos on their Facebook page.

The group are inviting people who enjoy the tunes to donate to the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity working to reduce the high rate of suicide among men.

Their spokesman, Mark Worsley, explained: "Since lockdown the group has not been able to meet to play and has missed being together incredibly.

"This is why they decided to record all of their Christmas tunes to fill social media through December and to raise some money for CALM.

"The Lads from Exmouth Handbells decided on this charity because throughout this year, there have been moments where anxiety and depression has affected so many people, including them, at some points.

"Luckily they have all come out of it the other side, maybe even stronger than before, but the team are very aware that they are the lucky ones."

Handbell group's long history in Exmouth

The group's history stretches back 80 years, when they were the 1st Exmouth Boys" Brigade handbell ringers.

They normally have a busy performing schedule, playing weekly at the Manor Hotel and at charity events in Exmouth and elsewhere in East Devon.

Usually at Christmas they would be playing festive tunes every day to entertain the public.

That has not been possible this year, but they were able to perform at the Devoncourt Hotel at its Christmas lights switch-on, on Saturday, December 5 – an event they have attended for 30 years.

They will also be holding an outdoor carol service at the Point in View church at 6.30pm on Christmas Eve.
