Exmouth Mayor and Town Crier present Bicton Inn landlady with bag of old rubbish

Exmouth's Mayor Steve Gazzard and Town Crier Roger Bourgein this week presented Alison Brockbank, landlady at the Bicton Inn, with a bag of old rubbish.

But this is not just any old rubbish, because a charity has found a way to turn it into cash for a very worthy cause.

Ellie's Fund raises money to support young people suffering with brain tumours and provides help to their families, as well as supporting brain tumour research.

One of their fund raising initiatives is to recycle certain plastic items which are not normally collected in roadside recycling collections and would otherwise end up in landfill or worse still blowing around our streets.

So this clever initiative serves two very important functions by helping to clean up our planet whilst helping a group of people who need as much support as possible, using an otherwise useless waste material.

The Bicton Inn, Exmouth, is the latest local business to support the scheme and you are invited to bring your plastic waste in to be passed on to Ellie's Fund. Items which can be recycled include:

-Plastic biscuit, cracker and cake wrappers

-Beauty and personal care packaging

-Oral care product packaging

-Confectionery wrappers

-Bread bags

-Disposable latex gloves

-Air, home care and cleaning packaging

-Inkjet printer cartridges

-Used pens and other writing instruments

-Crisp & KP packets

-Pringles cans

-Pet food pouches

-Aqua Optima water filters

-Disposable contact lenses, their blister packs and foil packaging

-Hygenic home items

-Baby food pouches

-Used stamps
