Exmouth Museum celebrated Armed Forces Day early with a 'festival of thanks' on Saturday (10 June).

The museum was decked out with flags and bunting for the occasion, and special exhibits showcasing the town's long association with the Armed Forces, such as photographs, medals and a spent Royal Navy shell, were set up inside.

Outside in the street were several exhibitors and military vehicles. The Royal Marines Association and Royal Marines Historical Society, The Royal British Legion and Exmouth Girl Guides were among the many showcasing their organisations, as well as local militaria collector and author Simon Fogg with his display of deactivated armaments.

An Exmouth Museum spokesperson said: "At 12pm the bugler from Exmouth Town Concert Band sounded Reveille and the standards of the Royal British Legion, Royal Marines Association, Exmouth Guides, Exmouth Brownies and Exmouth Rainbows were all presented to the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Brian Wills-Pope, MBE and the Mayor of Exmouth, who both took the salute. The ceremony concluded with the band playing the National Anthem.

"The museum would like to thank all those who exhibited and to Tesco, Krispies and Simon Fogg for their generous donations of raffle prizes, a special thanks to the townspeople and visitors who came out in force and braved the weather to celebrate such an important day and help raise record sums for the Museum and Royal Marines charities."

Exmouth Museum can be found on Sheppards Row in the town and here on Google Maps.
