A new flag is flying high over Coastwatch House on Queen's Drive in Exmouth.

The building, on the side of the old lifeboat slipway, is the training centre for Exmouth National Coastwatch Institution, the UK's fourth-busiest NCI station.

"Although Exmouth NCI is well known and respected among the town's residents, we wanted something that would raise our visual profile," said Station Manager Ivor Jones.

"As part of the area's search-and-rescue capability, we also decided that the flag would be an easy-to-see point of reference for all members of the public.

"Not only does it make us easier to find from land, but it also provides a helpful indication of wind direction and strength to water users."

With the return to Greenwich Mean Time, from Sunday 25 October Exmouth NCI will be on watch every day from 09:30am to 4pm.
