The official opening of the new skatepark in Phear Park, originally due to take place tomorrow (Saturday 30 October), has been postponed to spring 2022.

It comes amid recent bad weather and heavy rain due this weekend.

A district council spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, due to the recent rainy weather EDDC has had to postpone the official opening event of Exmouth Skate Park that is due to take place on Saturday.

"Work on the new skate park in Phear Park, finished a couple of weeks ago. A total of £365,000 has been invested in this project, with £240,000 coming from East Devon District Council and £125,000 from Exmouth Town Council.

"Officers were thrilled to visit the area last week and find more than 50 men, women and children all enjoying the space. This included some very excited skaters in their 30s and 40s who had travelled up from Torquay and Teignmouth to use the new park which was wonderful to see.

"The official opening event is now likely to take place in the spring and will include much of the same of what was planned for this weekend – including demonstrations from professional riders as well as competitions, prizes and music.

"Security fencing will remain around the edge of the site to help the new landscaping to settle in and the new grass to grow. We ask that users please keep off the fenced off areas as much as possible to help prevent the new skate park getting covered in mud."
