Primary school children from Exmouth will be brought together this month to talk about how to protect the environment.

Exmouth Town Council, working in partnership with a number of organisations, is asking pupils from the eight primary schools in Exmouth to consider what action we can all take to help our environment by attending a number of workshops and discussing the various problems we face today.

The special event will take place at Ocean, Exmouth, on Wednesday, September 25.

"This is shaping up to be fantastic conference," said Town Councillor and Mayor Steve Gazzard who came up with the idea of inviting the children to a schools' conference.

"I first came up with the idea after my visit with the children at Marpool School. I was very impressed by their enthusiasm and the many great ideas they had to help reduce plastic waste, promote wildlife and generally how best to look after our local environment.

"I would like to thank the many organisations who are helping us to deliver this amazing conference as well Ocean for allowing us to use the venue and Dartline for helping us transport the children to and from school."

Justin Moore, Manager at Ocean said: "We're delighted that Ocean could be home to this workshop for our local school children working with the town council and our local community to raise awareness of the issues we face every day."

The children will be attending workshops to learn about the three Rs - Reuse, Reduce and Recycle, creating and protecting wildlife areas and dealing with challenges we face today, pollination, pollution and its affects including where we fit in the food chain, climate impacts and learning from the past and making a difference for the future.

At the end they will be asked about what they have learnt, if they have any ideas or suggestions and if they would like to make a pledge to make one small change which will help protect our environment.
