Ofsted has rated an Exmouth primary school 'Good' in its most recent inspection.

Brixington Primary Academy, which has 360 pupils, was previously marked as 'Requires Improvement' in 2018.

A new curriculum was put in place in 2019/20, as well as a new approach to senior and middle leadership.

First Federation Trust, a multi-academy trust the school is part of, supported the school with staff training, and investing in a new early reading phonics programme and library of books.

Ofsted noted in the most recent inspection that time and training had been invested to improve leadership and the curriculum - including for the disadvantaged and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

Head of School Stuart Dyer said: "The inspection was an opportunity for the team and children to demonstrate the impact of their hard work and dedication in achieving our vision for the school.

"Our mission is about inspiring excellence, so our journey doesn't stop here – we will keep working to make the school even better."

Ofsted inspectors also noted that 'pupils say that they have no concerns about bullying. They are confident that staff would sort out any problems quickly should they occur', and 'the school is calm and has a purposeful atmosphere. Pupils are polite and confident and say that most pupils behave well.'
