A group of Exmouth RNLI volunteers and supporters raised over £1500 in the Exmouth RNLI MayDay Challenge recently.

In an initiative that was the brainchild of Exmouth RNLI crew, Geoff Mills, in collaboration with CrossFit Exmouth, several of the local lifesaving charity's volunteers competed over a series of exercises in teams of two, with the winner decided by the highest number of points across the series. The fundraiser, that took place on 4 June this year, saw the lifesavers complete the tasking in their lifeboat kit, with Geoff competing in his RNLI dry suit.

Other Exmouth RNLI crew members who successfully completed the gruelling RNLI MayDay Challenge were Steve Hockings-Thompson, Nick Wright, Dougie Wright, Dixie Dean, Jason Luff, Tim Barnes and Rory Carrig, together with Crossfit owner Shaun Spring and supporter Kelly Barnes.

They raised a total of £1528 for the local charity that's committed to saving lives at sea.

Geoff said: "We set ourselves a hard task to complete the challenge and I'd like to thank my fellow crew volunteers and supporters for taking part, with a special thank you to CrossFit owner Shaun Spring for helping to make it happen. I'm especially grateful to all those who gave to this very worthy cause and whose donations will be put to very good use at Exmouth Lifeboat Station."

Chair of Exmouth RNLI Fundraising Team Des White said: "Once again Geoff has set the bar high to raise an incredible sum for Exmouth RNLI and I must thank all those who took part and gave their support to this fundraiser. The money raised will be used for crew training and equipment at Exmouth RNLI Lifeboat Station."
