Exmouth: Simon Jupp MP says vaccine passports will 'hammer' hospitality industry's recovery
East Devon MP Simon Jupp spoke in Parliament on Wednesday 8 September, asking the Minister for Covid Vaccine Deployment Nadhim Zahawi a question on 'vaccine passports'.
A vaccine passport, also known as an NHS Covid Pass, shows your Covid-19 status with details of your vaccination or test results.
According to ONS data, around one in 10 adults (11%) in Great Britain have reported that they have been asked to show proof they'd been vaccinated or had a recent negative test result to be allowed to go into a venue or attend an event.
Simon Jupp MP said: "Make no mistake: vaccine passports will create a two-tier society with the hospitality industry having to police an unethical policy that will hammer its recovery.
"Given the Government's own words that we need to live with this virus, will my Rt. Hon. friend confirm how long vaccine passports will be in place, if passed by this House?"
In reply, Nadhim Zahawi said: "We will set out in detail in due course exactly how the vaccine pass will work for domestic use: for example, in nightclubs."
