Two Exmouth Community College students have received Citizenship Rewards after helping an injured friend get home.

At the beginning of last month Harry and Freddie Griffiths were playing in Phear Park when their friend Joshua broke his knee.

Rising to the occasion, Harry and Freddie carried Joshua from Phear Park all the way up Marpool Hill to his house.

The Exmouth Community College Citizenship Rewards have been created to shine a light on all the amazing things the college's students do within the community of Exmouth.

The Citizenship Rewards Scheme has been introduced this year in collaboration with the Exmouth Community UK Facebook Page to encourage students to be 'brilliant citizens'.

Reward scheme coordinator and teacher Philippa Rowe said: "Before the Half Term break we were really pleased to give Harry and Freddie Griffiths a Citizenship Reward for being brilliant and helping a friend who had badly hurt themselves in Phear Park.

"The boys helped carry their friend up Marpool Hill to his house. The boys were nominated through the Exmouth Community UK Facebook Page, and once the nomination was made, there were lots of other parents who came forward to say how the boys had also helped them.

"We are really proud of Freddie and Harry! Daniel from Exmouth Community UK made a special trip into college to meet the boys with Mr Davis and reward them with their vouchers to the Savoy Cinema, Exmouth."

Philippa added: "We know that sometimes students feel that they are seen as a burden on the town through social media. We want them to feel valued and to hear the positive stories about them.

"Anyone can nominate one of our students for doing something brilliant outside of college. A random act of kindness, a selfless act or being a positive influence on others."

The boys received many compliments when their story was shared on the Exmouth Community UK Facebook page.

Carol Tummon commented: "There are some lovely, kind and decent young people out there and these two lads are examples to them all. Very well done guys."

Bridget Harris said: "These lads are brilliant they will certainly grow up into responsible, kind and understanding young men. Well done to them all. Yes you are heroes!"
