Exmouth: What's happening with GWR trains?

Great Western Railway has recalled a number of its Hitachi 800 trains for precautionary inspections after cracks were reportedly found on more than one of the trains.

This means that many long-distance journeys, such as the lines running between London, Cardiff, Bristol, and Penzance, have been cancelled.

The company has advised customers with long-distance tickets not to travel and will provide refunds.

Local and rural services are still running however, with the Avocet Line (Exmouth - Exeter) unaffected.

Cancellation notices have continued to be issued on social media since Sunday.

As of today (Thursday 13 May), GWR has said that customers can expect disruption for the rest of this week, but the company expects "to be able to run a core service on all key routes with an amended timetable next week".

For those who need to make essential journeys, the timetable for the following day will be posted at midnight on the GWR website.

Avanti West Coast, West Midlands Railway, South Western Railway, CrossCountry, and Transport for Wales are conveying passengers via any reasonable route until further notice and are accepting GWR tickets.
