An Exmouth woman will soon attempt to crochet her way into the record books with a marathon 24 hour World Record attempt.
Natalie Morrison, 44, is attempting to set the world record for the Longest Crochet Marathon, officially confirmed by Guinness World Records.
On November 1 Natalie will continuously crochet scarves for local homeless charity, St Petrock's, and also raise funds for Knit for Peace and Rainbow Arch of Mind. The World Record attempt will take place at Wool On The Exe, Okehampton Street, Exeter.
"This idea came from me realising that I will never be able to complete a running marathon in my lifetime and raise loads of money for charity, which has always been on my bucket list," said Natalie.
"Then I thought, what am I good at? Crochet! Not sure why, but this led me to check the Guinness World Records site. Now, I am attempting a never attempted World Record, 'Longest Crochet Marathon'.
"I need to accomplish 24+ hours of continuous crocheting the day before my 45th birthday."
A five minute rest break is permitted every hour but to make the challenge even more difficult Natalie suffers from Osteoarthritis in her fingers.
Natalie has also suffered with mental illness over many years. Five years ago she founded a Facebook group called Exmouth Crafty Crafters, which meets fortnightly.
The group craft together, chat, eat cake, socialise and make new friends, giving each member something to look forward to.
Natalie said: "I trained as a Mental Health First Aider in October last year and now I have built my confidence up, I am passionate about mental health and getting people to open up and share their experiences.
"As I have found, if you are honest with yourself regarding mental health, and then honest with those around you, your life gets a lot easier. My mission now is to get everyone to speak out and break the stigma around mental health."
