The Deaf Academy in Exmouth will hold an open day this weekend.

Before 2020, it was known as the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education and was located on Topsham Road in Exeter.

It is inviting the public to explore its new "state-of-the-art" Douglas Avenue campus, which has been designed specifically for deaf people, and to meet staff.

It is also offering free British Sign Language taster sessions and basic deaf awareness sessions for visitors.

The vast majority of The Deaf Academy's students are profoundly deaf, a medical classification, and British Sign Language is their first language. Many have additional needs.

Partnership and Community Manager at The Deaf Academy Mark Stocks said: "Since we moved to Exmouth we have had an incredibly positive and warm welcome from the community.

"Our community open day is a chance for people to come and look around and find out a bit more about our students and what we do to support them and their learning at The Deaf Academy."

The event will take place from 12.30pm until 4pm on Saturday (21 October) and will be divided into sessions for people to drop into throughout the day.

Places are limited, so to secure your place email [email protected].

Ofsted rates The Deaf Academy's school for ages five to 19 'good'. Its college for ages 16 and over and its residential provision are currently rated 'requires improvement'.
