Exmouth's Town Crier tests positive for Coronavirus – new advice issued for the town
Exmouth Town Council says it is continuing to monitor the Coronavirus situation and its actions in light of the Covid-19 outbreak and is calling on the community to be even more aware of each other during this 'uncertain time'.
The town council released a statement this evening to say it is 'very concerned to hear' that Roger Bourgein, the Town Crier, has tested positive for the virus and is receiving treatment in hospital.
A spokesperson for Exmouth Town Council said: "We wish him a full and speedy recovery."
"We want to reassure the public that Public Health England has been made aware of Roger's voluntary role as a Town Crier and they have already alerted those people who need to self-isolate."
The Council is also closely monitoring the position with regards to Government advice about meetings and large-scale community events and says it will respond accordingly.
Councillor Steve Gazzard, Town Mayor, has commented that we must all be careful to follow the official advice given by the Government and its medical advisors and to self-isolate on the first sign of any symptoms.
"I would like to request that we are all mindful of elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbours and that we do what we can to help them through this uncertain time".
"The Council is aware that panic buying is causing supply issues in the local supermarkets and causing distress for some residents.
"Food banks are also receiving fewer donations and there is concern that our local food bank might be adversely affected."
Councillor Gazzard added: "Please think before you buy and consider others."
