Two fire engines from Exmouth attended a report of smoke coming from inside a fish and chip shop on Imperial Road in the early hours of this morning just after 4am (Wed 2 June).

People living in the flats above the shop were evacuated.

Together with another engine from Clyst St George and an aerial ladder platform from Danes Castle, the fire crews found that the fire was in a waste bin in the kitchen on the ground floor.

They extinguished the fire, and only the bin and its contents were damaged. The cause was accidental.
