Firefighters put out a fire in a first-floor flat in Exmouth on Sunday (27 November).

The blaze completely destroyed the flat's lounge and 80 per cent of the rest of the property, with the ground floor also suffering water damage.

One female suffered from mild smoke inhalation and was given medical assistance.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Crews from Exmouth, Ottery St Mary and Clyst St George were at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "This was a fire in a first-floor domestic flat.

"Fire was in the lounge area and was extinguished using eight breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets.

"Fire damage amounted to 100 per cent of lounge area and 80 per cent to remainder of property with ground floor accommodation suffering water damage.

"One female casualty on scene suffered from mild smoke inhalation and was given oxygen therapy by fire crews and also checked over by on scene ambulance crew.

"Fire extinguished, crews have now left scene. Cause of fire is still under investigation."
