Firefighters put out a small oven fire in Exmouth on Tuesday (5 September).

Exmouth and Exeter crews were called out just after 10.45am to reports of smoke coming from a property in the St Andrews Road area.

The Exeter Middlemoor crew arrived first and stood down the Exmouth firefighters before dealing with the small fire involving cooking in the oven of a ground-floor flat.

The cause was accidental, the fire service said.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Fire Control mobilised crews from Exmouth (on-duty watch and on-call) and Middlemoor to reports of smoke issuing from a domestic property in the St Andrews Road in Exmouth.

"Middlemoor appliance got in attendance first and stood down on-coming appliances.

"They confirmed that this as a small fire involving cooking in the oven in a ground-floor flat.

"They used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke out of the property.

"Cause of fire was accidental."
