Heavy rain has caused serious flooding on the A376 between Exmouth and Exeter.

According to reports on social media there are long traffic jams on the A376 and the Exton and Ebford area is also severely flooded.

In response to today's flooding Devon and Cornwall Police have reminded drivers to 'Slow. Down.' in wet conditions and be aware of standing water on the roads.

Paul Ingram warned fellow Exmouth residents of the flooding on the Exmouth Community Facebook group, he said: A376 flooded. Heavy queues towards Exeter. Exton and Ebford area flooding badly too. It's going to get busier."

With more rain forecast for this afternoon and this evening the flooding could become more severe.

Exmouth resident Pat Atkinson also reported a lot of standing water on the route between Woodbury and Exmouth, she said: "I have just come through Woodbury back to Exmouth and there is a lot of standing water on the roads, especially on a couple of the bends between Hulham Road and the Woodbury turning. Please, please slow down."

According to Kerry Roffey 'the queues are also due to lane closures at Countess Wear due to flooding'.

Here's the advice issued to drivers today by Devon and Cornwall Police:

-Slow. DOWN!

-Keep your distance from the car in front (minimum 2 seconds in good weather, at least 4 seconds in wet weather).

-Beware of standing water – aquaplaning can overwhelm the most modern safety system equipped cars.

-Headlights on dipped beam please: don't rely on daytime running lights in the rain as these may not also be illuminated at the rear of the vehicle.
