With MOT tests being suspended for six months due to the coronavirus outbreak a garage near Exmouth is offering free car safety checks to ensure our key workers can do their jobs safely.

The offer from Redlands Garage, on Exmouth Road, is open to NHS staff, key workers and the vulnerable.

Garage owner Paul Howes told Nub News: "With MOTs suspended for six months we wanted to do something to keep our key workers safe while they're doing their jobs.

"We normally carry out eight or nine MOTs a day and 50 per cent of vehicles tested have serious underlying issues. With cars being used less you can end up with brake problems which may prove dangerous.

"Personally I think the six month suspension is a very long time. We could have lots of vehicles on the road with dangerous faults.

Paul added: "So far we've had two nurses book a free safety check but we would like to see a lot more key workers coming through our door."

There are limited spaces between Monday and Friday, if you would like to book a free car safety check call Redlands Garage on 01392 873040 or email [email protected]. Please note that proof will be required.

Paul also pointed out that when the lock down ends there will be a 'massive back log' of vehicles needing MOTs, so book your MOT sooner rather than later.
